VexaStream

IPTV for Apple TV

Apple TV is the most locked-down platform we support and, once configured, one of the most stable. Everything installs from the tvOS App Store, apps update themselves, and playback performance on an Apple TV 4K is excellent even with large channel lists.

This guide explains which tvOS players accept standard IPTV credentials, how to enter a long server URL without fighting the remote, and how to solve the small number of tvOS-specific problems.

Before you start

  • A working Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K connected to your home network
  • A broadband connection of at least 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps or more for 4K
  • An active VexaStream subscription and the login details emailed after checkout
  • A player app that supports the M3U or Xtream Codes format

How to set up IPTV on Apple TV

Follow these steps in order. Most subscribers finish in under ten minutes.

  1. 1

    Install a tvOS IPTV player

Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search for a player that supports M3U playlists or Xtream Codes logins. Several are published for tvOS and are updated regularly.

  2. 2

Use your iPhone for text entry

When the player asks for a server URL, a notification appears on a nearby iPhone or iPad letting you type with the phone keyboard. This avoids mistyping a long URL with the Siri Remote.

  3. 3

    Add your VexaStream account

Enter the server URL, username and password from your welcome email, then save the profile. Some players sync the profile through iCloud to your other Apple devices.

  4. 4

    Download the program guide

Trigger the initial EPG download and set it to refresh daily. Choose your US time zone so listings match local broadcast times.

  5. 5

Set video output to match your TV

In tvOS Settings, Video and Audio, enable Match Content for frame rate and dynamic range so live streams are not force-converted to 60 Hz HDR.

Apple TV troubleshooting

The issues our support team sees most on this platform, with the fix that resolves each one.

Streams show a spinning wheel and never start

Confirm the server URL includes the correct port and re-enter the password. tvOS keyboards sometimes insert an autocapitalized first character.

Judder during live sports

Turn on Match Content Frame Rate in tvOS settings. Forcing every stream to 60 Hz causes visible judder on 50 Hz and 30 Hz sources.

The app forgets the playlist after an update

Re-add the profile and enable the player's iCloud sync option so credentials are restored automatically next time.

AirPlay from an iPhone drops out

Run the player natively on the Apple TV rather than AirPlaying. AirPlay adds a second wireless hop and is more sensitive to congestion.
